Well done. I've done nothing. Won't be entering for a while, need to read all the stuff a bit more carefully when I have more time I think.

o Ahh yeah I do. Oh dear Is it me, or does it seem insane that Sibelius would save a file in a format it then couldn't open Madness. I saved it as a particular sort of file for the recording, and it needs to be some other sort to open it on Sib. I only lost it because my laptop broke and I lost everything on it, I only got the compositions back because yap had them. I've lost scores for a lot of my comps. Awww I see crap Sneekymum: you should record your comp for the recordings site! What did you write? I ordered the LCM book today Have no idea what I will do for the other two bits: need to get this weekend over and done with before I even think about it!

Not sure I should broadcast publicly something I'm entering for an exam - perhaps afterward I will. I wrote a romantic sea shanty - of the billowing sails variety, no words but it sounds like it has some - for piano. Second victim has just arrived - I'm going to try to improve the chronicly bad "Happy Everything" which came second in the Song For Europe 1980 contest - (stunned to find the music - it's an original published 1979 - probably a Euro-Song-Contest fan collectors item). Piece Two needs to have lyrics and I have always remembered those to this song despite hearing it only once 26 years ago. Who could forget... "My love wrapped in a circus poster, a song inside a ring of gold, a smile upon a bed of straw - all of this and more would be in the hands I long to hold. Open it up and there would be a Happy Everything from me." ? Gosh - I'm probably not even going to get dressed today.

The shanty sounds fascinating, and I for one look forward to hearing a recording (after the exam if necessary).
"Happy Everything" sounds absolutely mindboggling. If you need a singer to test drive the results of your labours with it, give me a shout.

Thank you - I might try to record that too - the LCM encourage applicants to send a recording though it's not compulsory. I've lost my voice all together at the moment - but I can't sing anyway.

Just realised I'm a bit unsure of something: the arranging part of the G2 exam - do they expect you to just arrange the parts/harmonies as in the book, or to fiddle about a bit, or can you go crazy?? Anyone know?

I asked my music teacher today - she thinks that inventive is good. Perhaps more so than I was prepared for - she's suggested I rewrite the melody (referring to Piece Two) before doing anything else (I already have an intro) - so following on from that I'd say she was going to say the same about Piece Three. She suggested syncopated - I might have to just sing it in various styles and then decide which to choose.
I'm still holding onto Grade Two playability as the guide and it was suggested that I put a few more notes in the left hand of Piece One. We had a look at some piano music and I know what she means (though she didn't say which notes to put where). I had many more notes before I stripped it down to make it more like piano - as "keyboard" is what I've been studying with her for the last five years (although on a piano and not a keyboard).
Haven't got the LCM piano book yet (it's on order) - but I don't need it yet either - though I can't join in with discussion on what to choose.

Recommended minimum age for the Grade 2 and 4 exam = 10 years I don't think I could manage Grade 2

That's interesting, sneekymum.
I haven't decided which pieces to do yet, or what instruments, or anything... I'm not good at composing to order, I tend to be much better at just getting inspired, so hoping some random inspiration will hit...
Piano accompaniment for my song will be simple as I'm a terrible pianist!

Nearly there. Done all three pieces now.
Just got to assemble it - some things to draw on by hand (I like pictures on my music) and glue the key change bit on one and rescan... and then into the envelope.
Still in two minds about recordings. I don't think Notepad does music files so I'm toying with the idea of playing the files through my speakers and recording it on my camera - It will sound horrible but might be better than nothing. And I'm not going to sing - so I wondered if they'd mind hearing an oboe instead...
Then there's the Statement to write and get signed by both my teachers - really quite a lot to do between finishing writing it and actually sending it off.
& I've started Grade Four already - I guess this is addictive?

EDITED on December 3rd to say..
I got grade two with merit - just two points short of a distinction.
