Look at the poll on AB - quite a few think I've failed. Well, we don't! Perhaps I'm not saying, because I am sick of the speculation that I will get this and that and I'm a music student so it should be soooo easy to get 100%. When that expectation is upon me, no wonder I refuse to say anything. Enough gets said about me behind my back without adding this theory result to the conversation. I can just imagine it now: "Oh my word, Nat didn't get 100%, and she is a music student, what must they be teaching her" Yeah, know how you feel. Every one asks me why I don't sing with the local amateur operatic society, like another couple of local singing teachers. Apart from the fact that my teaching takes up every evening, therefore no free time to go to rehearsals/performances, what would they say if I auditioned for a main part and got it? Well (sour grapes etc.), she would, wouldn't she, she's a professional. And if I didn't get it? What does that say about my (supposedly professional standard) singing? AND therefore about my teaching? Nah, best stay out of it and the petty politics.

I bet you did better than you thought, myself, but though like others I'd like to know to commiserate or congratulate as necessary, no one can force you and it's your decision whether you tell or not

There's a great debate raging on whether I should sing at church. We're moving within the group, and there is a choir, which as part of my christian witness I would like to join on the choir masters terms. (I am unable to join the choir in my current church due to the terms of the choir mistress, which I am not prepared to accept) But then all the people there know I'm a pro, and I don't want people taking a snipe out of because of my job. Being married to the curate is just a further complication. I'd rather do recitals, and any oratorio work that people offer me rather than get caught up in amateur politics. Been there done that and been bitten by the yellow-monster jealousy too often.

No, I won't tell because I just don't want to. Put yourselves in my position - the expectation that I'll get a "high" mark is there, a thread is started with some replies saying "definitely distinction" blah blah, that makes me feel worse, knowing what people "think" and/or "expect", and the easiest way to not have people taking the urine and stuff is to not say, which is the action I'm taking.

And I see from TOP that he's just entered himself for Grade 8 theory in November...

Terribly tempted to join him. Especially as all my theory qualifications are wrapped up in O Level (When you had to write 4-part harmony) A Level Theoretical Music (String 4-tet, trio Sonata, Bach Chorale and analysis of two symphonies) and my degree (Undergraduate dissertation). It would be fun to go straight for Grade 8.

Let's all have a go. I include KJ, YAP and AP in that challenge too

We haven't done grade 7 yet . It'd be a laugh though....

Trust me, gr7 is a minor step up from gr6... Go for gr8! (unless of course you are a compleatist and desire the whole set...)

No, I'm not prepared to take that step yet, Mr B. Might do Grade 7 next time or might not.
Thought I might have a look at Practical Musicianship though - try Grade 5 out of curiousity and see what happens.

Seriously don't think you'll have a problem with it. Not with your range of distinctions... do you want me to print the certificate for you now!

Perhaps the repeated hits on that were what made the forums go wonky, YAP!
