I've just had a phonecall and have been asked to play piano for the upcoming production of Jeckyll & Hyde The Musical at our local theatre. I've been told it's lovely music but quite challenging, has anyone heard it or played it before?

I've not, but it sounds like a fab opportunity! When is the production? Even if it is challenging if you have plenty of time to prepare then go for it. You'll be really satisfied about doing it as well if it's more challenging and it goes well .

That's the thing, it's 12th-16th September so hopefully it won't be too challenging Someone should be dropping the score off to me during the week and then it'll be practice, practice, practice

Not too bad, just about a month or so. Go for it!

There's some lovely songs, my stepfather played bass for it when it was in Cambridge recently. Orchestrally its not the greatest score, but it'll work well on the piano.

I think I've played a few songs from it - I don't remember them being particularly difficult...sorry that's not much help! ;D

Received the score Tuesday night and have had our first rehearsal today It's actually not that bad to play and the music is really nice, only problem now is that my fingers are killing me!!! They've been aching on and off for about a year now, the doctor told me it's arthritis but he just says what he thinks you think it is. Hoping i'm going to be ok for 5 nights in a row

UPDATE:
Fingers are holding up, after the first couple of days they didn't hurt anymore so either i'm relaxing more when I play or they needed breaking in again!
The music is lovely! I'm practising everyday which i've never found myself doing for a show before. There's only one number that I don't have to play in though so I have to remember not to skip to the next piece, did that in the first rehearsal and it didn't sound too good ;D

Thanks for the good wishes Had our first rehearsal in the theatre last night, we are not in a pit because there's too many of us and i'm straight in front of the conductor facing the audience I'm also playing on a different keyboard now so that took abit of getting used to, oh well it will all be over in a week.

It's not a story that I'd immediately think....'oooh lets make that a musical', so I'm slightly sceptical!!!
I'm going to be doing it for a week in may as well as October!
