I once got hit over the head with an Annie O Warburton book........ I guess the books aren't in print anymore? What, because of their history of being used for weapons?

Oh yes - Annie O Warburton - we used her books for harmony at school!! I once got hit over the head with an Annie O Warburton book........ I guess the books aren't in print anymore? 'Score Reading, Form and History is the Little Green Book whose title I couldn't quite remember last night. I have just googled it and found it became unavailable in March 2001, with no intention to reprint. That is a shame because it is such a useful little book; I imagine there are more readable, modern books that cover the same ground. The same fate has befallen all her books: Basic Music Knowledge (another shame - that book had everything); Graded Aural Tests; Graded Music Course; Harmony. All the books were written for middle-class grammar school children of the 1950's and 60's. Modern kids would just giggle at Graded Music Course. I still have a couple of copies of Harmony, but it is unusable with modern students, with its arcane language and lengthy discourses into areas they do not need to understand if they are getting the basics right. Wonderful lady; I still miss her. Apart from anything else, she introduced me to the Schumann, so her legacy lives on in more than one way.

As of Christmas I now have a copy of the score to the Schumann Piano Concerto. It's great fun to play, and a good workout to boot. Even the double sharps make sense . Must resist playing it instead of working on my LRSM pieces .
