It's been a while but felt this needed an update Saw him this morning for a lesson, he passed grade 1 theory last session and is booked in for grade 1 piano this session (abit different to learning the Beatles!). Anyway he said how much he is enjoying playing the piano now he has gotten over the beginning bit, and that he just wants to go and practice all the time! How right everyone was, i'm so proud as a teacher that i've helped him to this point

Well done to you and to your pupil too . I just re-read your first post about taking someone to the standard they want to reach, I wonder if anyone ever reaches the standard they want to reach . We all think at first I want to be that good and then when we get that good we want more, the toils of playing a musical instrument ;D.

Another update He passed grade 1 with 116!!! This considering he fell apart as soon as he walked in the exam room. Luckily he didn't swear when he went wrong on a scale (which he tends to do in the lessons!), onwards and upwards

well done to both of you! You wrote at the beginning that you thought you'd get him to where he wanted to go and then let him go - is it seeming now as if he'll be prepared to stick with it and go on pushing the ceiling upwards?

Woo, well done . In trampolining competitions one actually loses marks for swearing ;D .

Great news! I wonder if many people do swear in music exams...my adult pupil does it in lessons after hitting the same wrong note more than twice in a row, which means it happens quite often. ;D

He's constructed his own rhyme for remembering the order of sharps, I won't type it, I actually blushed when he told me the first time

He's constructed his own rhyme for remembering the order of sharps, I won't type it, I actually blushed when he told me the first time The ones that make the rest of us blush are the best. Go on, tell us what he came up with. We can use them with our own pupils. Of course, you might need to separate the letters with dashes, as in b-l-o-o-d-y h-e-l-l etc
