I had a shot at playing violin yesterday! As much as I hate the sound of the violin and hate the way I sounded playing the violin, I kept having to pick it up and keep trying! Anyway, after about 3 hours, I can finally play grade 1 stuff But I have new foud respect for violin players because it's hard! Or the beginnings was anyway! And quite painful actually... It has to get easier later on though?!

Great!
I gave up at around grade 4/5. Had an awful teacher, wish I hadn't, but that's the way some things go.

That's what my friend said- the one who was teaching me! Although she gave up after grade 2 aggges ago and is just starting to learn by herself again.
What is it with violin teachers?!

Yeah, I've wanted to have another go at it, but I don't have time to keep it up consistently enough. When I got it out last year having not played for ages, it sounded dreadful!

I played violin off and on for years. I love the sound of the instrument just not when i'm playing it ;D I managed to pass grade 7 (105/150 ) but realised I was never going to sound any good and gave up soon afterwards, i'll probably have another go in a few years and come to the same realisation again

I stopped with the testing system after grade 6. Moved to a location that didn't offer the exams... but things turned out great, and I found the motivation to practice/learn independently. All you need is time and inspiration

That might not be entirely you though. Violins hate being neglected and sulk if they're not played for a while, and have to be played in again before they start sounding good.
