What's the difference between Yamaha 4C and 5C?

A 5C mouthpiece is more open at the tip. As you're a relative beginner a 4C will be better, as you get more experienced a 5C would perhaps be useful, but it gives a slightly different sound, a lot of jazz players use 5C's.
The more closed 4C mouthpiece gives a more focused sound, more classical. I use a 4C and it's great.

Thanks. I 'm sure the 4c will be fine for the forseeable future. More experienced than grade 1? ;D

I don't really advise getting Vandoren sax mouthpieces though. I lied, I just realised. I used to have a 4C, it's what came with my sax . I now use a Selmer C*. Selmer are the better mouthpieces for saxes, Vandoren generally more so for clarinet.

Yes even for a Yamaha sax . I have 2 Yamaha saxes and always use the Selmer mouthpiece.

Indeed. They might be slightly cheaper some place different to where I got mine, but they'll generall be around that price, unless I'm missing something...

I bent my ligature when I dropped my sax on the floor . I also broke my other one somehow, can't remember how. I use my Rovner, but I want a BG one, tried my sax teachers' one and it was great!

I dropped my 4c moutpiece the first week I had my sax and it shattered. I wish I hadn't spent £60 on another 4c

Oops! My mouthpieces have never broken but I'm lucky! I have 2 normal ligatures, and a Rovner, 2 Yamaha 4C mouthpieces and a Selmre C*. Never really use anything other than the Rovner and Selmer though. Once you start using better stuff it's horrible to degrade! The tenor sax I'm using is bad, and I can't stand playing it! I guess I have high standards!
