Hey folks.
I recently had my clarinet returned - sbhoa borrowed it for her G1 challenge. It seems a shame to own one and not be able to play it, so I've been having a go and seeing how I get on.
For the moment I'm just messing about really... my piano teacher also teaches clarinet and I'll be asking him for some tips, but as you may have guessed from the username and the many flute related posts, I'm primarily a flautist & I'm planning a performance assessment this term and so I don't want to get too engrossed rediscovering my clari!
I have an old style Buffet B12 and it still seems to be in fairly good shape. (I've had it for about 10 years or so) I don't have any music as I donated it all to said teacher-friend!
Any ideas for things to have a go at to gradually get used to the instrument again? For preference, things that I don't need to buy any new music for, or I shall be skint
Just to give some sort of picture of where I'm starting from: I've never had any lessons, just mucked about...
I can get what I think is a not-too hideous sound for the first couple of octaves, and can round about reach the C on 2 leger lines before I think my neighbours will start actually plotting my murder - I can get to the F above that but my tuning starts suffering horribly and I think the neighbours would certainly rather I didn't even try (I can only get there by going up in steps, if I attempt to just jump straight in it doesn't work!) I think I'd pay good money NOT to hear me go above C and I don't actually know any of those higher fingerings, I can get the notes with the fingering chart right in front of me ;D
I can't tongue worth a dime on the clarinet without it messing up the sound, I can't really do much in the way of dynamics...
Any ideas just to get me started and keep me out of mischief? I have no idea what I am doing
