Does anyone know any good books for recorder duets? One of my housemates plays a bit, probably around grade 6. I'm probably about grade 3, so any with a hard ish top line and easy second part is good .

I have loads of them put away but can't remember offhand what they're called. I remember some nice Staeps ones but they were around grade 8 standard. When I get organising my room again i'll check them out for you.

which one was that then? I've played some Corelli with a young student here...but you don't like Corelli, Nat, do you?

It was Telemann I think, Chris?? No I don't particularly like Corelli , his trio sonatas really get on my whatsits . However, I am going to play more recorder in the summer hols after uni is done and to be honest, I've played some solo Baroque stuff on it and it's not too bad. Perhaps as the recorder was/is predominantly a Baroque instrument, the music written for it seems a tad more bearable.

There is lots of Telemann, some of it quite hard, some not too bad - my pupil, who is about grade 5 level, can manage some, though she hates the high notes. I'll have a rootle around and see if I've any other ideas, but a lot of the stuff I have is stretching my abilities too...

High notes I can get quite easily. I could get top F as soon as I got it, I think D was a bit more problematic.

What about James Hook, Easy Duets for Descant and Treble. Not all as simple as they look, but nice just for fun. My favourite has to be Hotteterre, Premiere Suitte de Pieces for two recorders and no bass ( a gift for a birthday from a good friend), but not sure how easy they are.

Eek, the Hotteterre I've got is stuffed full of fancy French ornaments, and bits I can't count very well...(not that that's necessarily an indication of the likely standard of the piece, there's lots I can't count very well ) Must look into the Hook for my pupil .
