I need help.
I've got loads of performances and stuff over the next week, have already had an hour and a half of orchestra and 3 hours of jazz b. and, and I've cut the inside of my lip, so it hurts just sitting here, let alone when playing. Now there isn't much I can do this week, so I will have to bear the pain and let it be a lesson, but is there anything I can do/use to stop this happening again when I have a mad few weeks? I' ve seen people use something like cigarette papers but not sure if it's for that purpose?

I don't know how to prevent the cuts, but whisky (yes, honestly) is a fantastic disinfectant, and though it hurts like #### for a few seconds, the cut will then heal really quickly. If I play bassoon for too long, I get a blister on the inside of my upper lip - occasionally it bursts (YUK!)...and then I've a great excuse for a mouthful of whisky!

Maybe you could be your embachoure?...but tis unlikely.
The cigarette papers are used by a few of my friends as they have 'uneven teeth' on there lower jaw and so putting the paper on evens out the teeth and is meant to help produce a better sound, but it might work to protect your lower lip, I don't know but am guessing it probably would. (though it does take a while to playing with them in) I do know someone who has a little plastic thing (it's like a tiny gum shield) which she fits over her front teeth before playing, it does the same thing as the cigarette papers.

Fold the cigarette paper in half length ways and put over your teeth. It will stop your teeth cutting into your gum/lip.
My friend also has a tiny gum shield thing for when she plays the bassoon, as she has sharp teeth that cut into her
