Anyone else going to this?
I'll be there (with my bassoon, Louis). and I might be feeling lonely.... Any double reeders fancy a fun day out?

Aww... looks like you are the only double reeder here! There was a thread about this on TOP and someone posted - I'm not a DR, I'm a SR - I resisted the temptation to post - I'm a DD

Only an SR? (looks snootily down nose)
Unfortunately, this looks like being an anorak-train-spotting type of event! Are there NO double-reeders here at all?

I am a double-reeder too (oboe) and knew about this some months ago but didn't post about it on TOP.
Do let me know what the day is like. I would have liked to go but not being in the UK means it is too far away.

Well....
It was an EXHAUSTING day.
My bassoon teacher collected me at 7a.m. and we headed for Leeds. Inevitably (i was navigating!!) we got lost , but eventually found the event.
I played more bassoon in one day than I normally play in a week! I did a 1 hour bassoon trio workshop, a 1 hour rehearsal for the massed play, then the actual performance of the massed play. I also went to a very entertaining lecture about the cor anglais, a performance by some eminent wacky bassoonist and a performance by the Leeds College of Music students.
It certainly challenged me to raise my play!! People commented that I have a lovely tone...but I need to project myself more (not surprising really - I do shy away from playing forte!).
There were opportunites to try instruments....so I sent a text to my husband at lunchtime "Do we have 20 thousand to spare?". He replied "eh....NO!!", so I didn't buy a rather nice Puchner bassoon. I came away happy with Louis (my 20 year old, rather unusually coloured bassoon). He's certainly good enough for where I am at the moment.
So any of you double-reeders who get the chance....Yes, its a good day out!
I did hear rumours that the next IDRS event may well be in Birmingham next year.
See you there!!
