Taking grade 7 this term.....
The TG syllabus is confusing!! Grade 7 whole tone scales printed as tongued triplets in scale requirement book. Double check the syllabus and the slurred whole tones scales are in quavers in 4/4. Is this right?
The scale requirement book doesn't actually say how to slur any of the scales only how to tongue? That's according to my son who has been told to slur his scales but in what fashion he is totally confused.
HELP please!!
Anyone know more?

Not me, but here is a thought. I have yet to see an exam scale book that does not contain somewhere within this little gem, or words to this effect, "Consult the syllabus for up to date requirements." Piano scales and arps are frequently printed to give indications of notation and fingering, rather than the actual playing requirements. Grade 6+ pianists, for example, have to play 4 octave scales with the AB, yet their book only offers 2 octave examples. I have copied this from syllabus on the TG website. Does it make any sense? Technical Work (14 marks) (see page 6) Candidate to prepare one lip flexibility exercise and then either Section i) or Section ii) in full. Lip Flexibility Exercise: a) Lip Flexibility Grade 7 no. 1 (from Scales and Exercises for Treble Clef Brass) Trinity Guildhall b) Lip Flexibility Grade 7 no. 2 (from Scales and Exercises for Treble Clef Brass) Trinity Guildhall c) Exercise no. 21 or no. 22 (from How Brass Players Do It) Brass Wind either i) Scales and Arpeggios (from memory) Scales: The following scales to be performed f or p, tongued or slurred or staccato tongued as requested by the examiner: B and Bb major (two octaves) B and Bb harmonic minor (two octaves) B and Bb melodic minor (two octaves) Whole-tone scale starting on B and Bb (two octaves) Chromatic scale starting on B and Bb (two octaves) Arpeggios: The following arpeggios to be performed f or p, tongued or slurred or staccato tongued as requested by the examiner: B and Bb major (two octaves) B and Bb minor (two octaves) Dominant 7th in the keys of B and Bb (one octave) Diminished 7th starting on B and Bb (two octaves) Augmented arpeggio starting on B and Bb (two octaves) or ii) Exercise The following exercises to be played either tongued or including slurs as indicated, as requested by the examiner: a) Key centre exercise in Bb b) Bb major expanding scale exercise c) B minor expanding scale exercise d) B major scale in 3rds exercise e) Bb minor scale in 3rds exercise All scales and exercises are contained in the book Scales and Exercises for Treble Clef Brass published by Trinity Guildhall.
