Hi folks Have a look at the new Trinity Guildhall syllabus for 2007 onwards, at www.trinitycollege.co.uk/site/?id=173. I can't really talk for other instruments, but it is brilliant for pianists. The 'technical requirements' and aural sections have been well thought out and blow the competition out of the water. It is even possible to avoid aural altogether until post grade 5. (Did you hear Nat cheer just then? ;D). For those who do choose the aural option pre grade 6, it is listening and discrimination based, not short-term memory and singing based. There is no singing. Hear that, Nat? NO SINGING ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D It looks as though Trinity Guildhall have been listening to the majority of us who teach normal children in normal lessons with normal aspirations. I am one happy bunny ;D Steve

Yes Steve, I heard it clearly, I'll look later...
Actually just briefly looked at the piano one. It says 3 pieces, one from each list but only gives List A and B ..huh?
And what on earth are last part of the techical requirements..split personality, colotura, puppeterr? WHAAAT!?!

Actually just briefly looked at the piano one. It says 3 pieces, one from each list but only gives List A and B ..huh? Can't remember the exact wording, but it is 3 pieces chosen from the two lists; at least one from each list. The names of the technical exercises, for identification purposes and more meaningful to children than 'Exercise 1a etc' Steve

Oh right, I like the look of the aural tests. I see for grades 6-8 we have to do sight reading, which is fine by me..
I think I'm switching exam boards....

I'd go to a workshop, but they are all too far away.

Yep I'd like to go to a workshop but I think I've missed all the Scottish ones.... - I liked the look of the syllabus, but not necessarily the choice of pieces in each list........ I'll have to get to a music shop sometime and browse to see what the books look like...... (Sorry I'm in one of my dotty hanging sentence modes......!!!!! ;D

There is no singing. Hear that, Nat? NO SINGING ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Steve Ha! I wonder if they made that decision after they heard I was coming back to do another exam! Recorder seems to be staying as-is, but at the moment there's just a message to await further orders. edit - I was going to say mine's a G&T, but realised I wasn't in the winebar. oops.

Sorry to get controversial but this can hardly be a good thing. What on earth is wrong with singing? Are we implying children are incable of singing, that the AB have had tests in place incompatible with children for decades and STILL not realised, that children in 2006 are less capable of singing than when AB started? I don't think so. The voice is the most natural instrument we all possess. Anyway, you can still hum, whistle. play back on your instrument if you are a sing phobic (if such a term exists). I don't care if I get smited (again!) for speaking my mind on this, but it's apalling. Shame on TG. Yes, I think Singophobia exists, my old flute teacher used it on me . And if I wanted to be assessed on my singing I would take a singing exam. Simple as. Estatic. ;D
