Has anyone been to any of the seminars for the new TG syllabus, and if so did the presenter show you a DVD of a girl playing a Shostakovich waltz to mark?
I am interested in what you all came up with for the last mark, the 'communication and interpretation' (basically how engaging she was to the audience) In our group the marks ranged from 4 - 7 which is a below pass to a distinction for this category and all the pianists were either 4 or 5, whereas other instrument specialists were more generous.
This goes to show that even with the superior marking system that Trinity has to remove subjectivity there is still a huge difference in opinion.

Chocolate dog went to one yesterday.
I couldn't go to any, but I am now going to use TG more for any candidates I have.

I wonder if CD went to the one my teacher attended, in Edinburgh? My teacher reported back that the new syllabus will still have its gremlins, but he was pleased to see that there will be much more flexibility in technical requirements, and particularly that sightreading will be optional until the higher grades.

I think CD went to one in Perth.
Of course there are going to be problems with the syllabi, but that's to be expected. Even the AB have numerous faults with the way they do things (but we won't go there). Overall though I like the look of the TG stuff and will definitely consider it ahead of AB in future.

I went to the Norwich one. I like the transparency of the marking scheme and the realisation that there's more to technical work than scales and arpeggios.
I shall continue to use TG for my singers and offer it as an option for my pianisits.
