Do you believe a student should remain still when playing? or do you think some movement is good?
And along the same lines does anyone have pupils who are at the other end and move constantly in a 'fidgeting' sort of way, any ideas on how to stop this?

I don't think it really matters that much as long as the music is conveyed. I think, or I'm told I move when I play but I don't think it makes the music worse .

I have been informed that it is distracting away from the music when there is too much movement

Some people find it distracting and others don't. I personally don't find it that "offensive" if the music is good, but others will disagree with me. It's just a matter of personal taste and the opinion of one person will be different to another's .

It's not something I would ever point out to a pupil unless it adversely affected their playing. I'd hate to make somebody unduly self-conscious about what they look like when they have enough to worry about in what they sound like!
