The AB forum is so overmoderated now that all of the useful members have either left or stopped posting. It is impossible to disagree with anything that certain members write and it has become as dull as ditchwater. many of the so-called teachers there have barely a grade between them, let alone a teaching qualification, yet they seem far too ready to offer their words of wisdom at every opportunity. Maybe this is the place to post again now?

Didn't noticed the AB forum being overmoderated but if it is then I'm looking forward to it kicking off on here!

Seriously, the AB forum cannot be any sort of showcase for the Board. Teachers offering advice when they have barely a handful of low grades to their name!

Yes, but wouldn't it be nice for a few more to join in! Seriously, the AB forum cannot be any sort of showcase for the Board. Teachers offering advice when they have barely a handful of low grades to their name! Has it got worse nowadays? In my time there, I recall one rather pompous individual with a huge collection of bought post-nominals (rather than earned) who used to freely dispense some particularly bad advice, and ask some ridiculous questions - much to the annoyance of several of us. He started teaching at grade three and slowly spent a number of years working through the grades whilst teaching. Not good.

There used to be some really interesting discussions on the AB board and although I have looked in on this site over the years it appeared to be almost deserted - why? What happened to the original forumites who started this. It would be really good to see some of those posters posting again!

MusicMama, did you write on the AB Fora? If so it must have been under another name. I really don't see why things should "kick off" here at all. There were many decent musicians and teachers who liked to discuss music matters but who had their hands tied my the Moderators and by certain members who used the report button far too often and for no good reason apart from personal grudges. There were a few very foolish ones too who liked to think that they were far better than they were and who offered dubious advice and asked basic questions that any grade one theory book would have helped them with. I recall one former member, a teacher, who had to use the forum to check the correct leading note of a minor scale. I was reported and warned twice for using so called swearing. The offending word was "sh1t", yet I see so much worse there now.

...and by certain members who used the report button far too often and for no good reason apart from personal grudges. There were (probably still are some) some very decent people there, but I'm afraid I got fed up with all the nastiness (and professional jealousy) which went on behind the scenes and gave up reading and contributing to the forums. There were several prolific posters who appeared ok on the surface, but were incredibly nasty and b*tchy about others by PM. There were a few very foolish ones too who liked to think that they were far better than they were and who offered dubious advice and asked basic questions that any grade one theory book would have helped them with. I recall one former member, a teacher, who had to use the forum to check the correct leading note of a minor scale. LOL! That's brought back memories! That member started a thread to ask "Would you say that the leading note in F minor is E flat or E natural?"! ;D That wasn't long after he had started a thread saying that he was helping a pupil through a theory paper and had come across a phrase with a B flat, an E flat, and an F sharp in it, and the question was 'What is the likely key for this phrase?'. That 'teacher' had - bizarrely - decided that it must have been F major and had told his pupil the same!!! It took about three pages of people trying to explain it to him before he understood (he'd claimed it was a trick question as people tried to explain it to him!). Very sad that people set themselves up as teachers and con others when they haven't yet learnt the basics, isn't it?

Over here died because it lost Nat, who'd been hounded out of There - she singlehandedly kept the place going. I'm one of the ones needing to sit on my hands and not go There because I'll explode if I do - but equally am now wary of Here because we were sneered at from There for trying to go our own way.

I am not worried about what too many of the AB forum members think. I used to enjoy some lively debate and sharing thoughts about teaching methods, etc but don't feel much like sharing anything There now. The better name for the place is MoronVille at times!
