The title says it all. I worked long and hard for my music qualifications and get angry when I read of so-called teachers offering lessons when they have little experience in teaching at anything beyond a very basic level. If they really do have the skills let them take the diplomas.

;DMaybe not even bothering to do that. I am shocked at the numbers of so-called teachers who think that grade eight is a teaching qualification. There is so much more to the art of teaching than simply being able to play to grade eight standard. Learning about different teaching methods and how to correct faults, training ears, explaining technical matters etc, etc is vital to good teaching and simply not covered in grade exams. There is no reason why it should be of course, because they are not intended to be teaching qualifications.

I am not a teacher - user name says it all -but I have been constantly amazed that people think that they are able to teach having passed Grade 8 (and in some cases lower grades). We would not expect teachers who have just passed their GSCE's to set up as maths or English teachers so why is it acceptable to take money for teaching music which IMHO is so much harder than teaching some of the other subjects. I have great admiration for the wonderful teachers out there who encourage and produce good musicians but no time for those who take money for passing on bad technique and ultimately end up by discouraging eager students.
