I've found a magic way of keeping my classes quiet at this fraught time of year....stick on a DVD of High School Musical (preferably the sing-a-long version) and they are MESMERISED!!
Have done this with Year 7, 8, 9 and 11 - they ALL loved it, even the boys! And they all know the words and sing along to it....and they all desperately want it to be our next school production!
But I really don't understand! The story is weak (even weaker than Grease); the acting is pretty average; there are no big stars in it; and the music....is...well...how can I put this? Is it just me or is it utter tripe?
Why do kids like this candy-floss music?

A few years ago, The Sound of Music was doing the rounds in this area. "Practically compulsory listening" is how a year 12 music student described this rubbish. If God had intended adolescents to have musical taste, She would not have made them adolescent.

Arrghh! Our music teacher is mad on this, she keeps randomly bursting into songs from it halfway through the lesson! From what I've seen on the advert, it looks absolutely horrendous.... It was School of Rock at our music department that is used to keep the kids quiet

BBC are so short of things to show, they will broadcast anything they can get their mits on. HSM is probably doomed now. ;D

Well I've sky +'d it for my son to watch. He loves Grease, Oliver and Annie and that's about the only musical education he gets as he doesn't want to learn an instrument (not a problem : , i'll watch it with him, knowing me i'll probably enjoy it
