I'm having a great time this week and thought i'd share it with you Been sorting through all my music and put loads of stuff on ebay that i'm not using anymore, mainly recorder because I don't play it now. Now i've done that i've split my books into different sections, piano music in books specifically of one composer and piano music in anthologies etc. and i'm now entering them into a database. The idea is to enter the piece, composer, grade (if known), book it's in, colour and number (going to get sticky colours) and then what shelf it's on so that I can look something up on the computer and find it hopefully within 5 minutes!!! Think it's going to be useful finding alternative pieces for exams as I have a lot of the old ABRSM piano books that I usually pick up on ebay. Going to attempt to do it with my singing stuff next and the strange thing is i'm actually enjoying it! I got the idea from a friend of mine who has a house full of music and is struggling to organise it all, but it's handy if someone rings one of us up and says do you have this particular piece because we'll be able to find it

I stand in awe... I'm sorting out at the minute too as I'm moving house, but my cataloguing at the minute entails 'this pile here' or 'that pile there'.

Sorry if I sound abit smug Dulciana Getting abit carried away now, going to put my Moeck recorder on ebay too, figured there's no point keeping it now i've sold all the music ;D This is part of my weight loss plan, I need to stay in control of the house (and clutter) so I can stay in control of my eating

Wow..I wish a friendly possum lived near me!! Well done! The most I've managed to sort is easier tunes on top shelf, more diffibult as shelves go down. Yes, it's all backwards really. I should become more 'possum' like.

Thank-you I now have 2 databases, one with piano anthology classical pieces and one with piano anthology popular pieces. Going to start on specific composer pieces tonight so I know exactly which pieces I have in those too

I just put it to use in a lesson. Pupil wants an alternative piece for grade 5, look on the list and check on the database, yes i've got the piece!!! Go straight to the shelf and pick up the book straight away to give to the pupil, she then points out to me that she already has the book in her bag ;D Oh well, at least I know it works
