I've got Sibelius which is what I initially had the score on and got the recording from but I didn't save the recording as a certain type of file which I need it to be to open it.

It sounds like it might be recoverable if it's still within the same program. You could try asking on a Techie Forum for computing. I've had loads of help by posting a new thread here - forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=29 though Sibelius is not exactly mainstream the priciple might be similar to other programmng questions. I'm planning to do it on Finale Notepad. (note to anyone reading this who doesn't know - it's a free download program from here - www.finalemusic.com/notepad/ ) - though I'll have to be a bit careful I don't write anything unfeasible in terms of what a particular instrument can do as Finale won't stop me from writing the impossible.

Ok thanks, I'll see what I can do. I really want the score because some parts of it would need adapting.

Sounds like something beyond Grade Two you're talking about?
I discussed what was appropriate with my music teacher yesterday and he thought that I should try to write at about the same grade as the performance exam on the instruments used. Tricky - but not a bad guide.

If it was related to a grade the composition difficulty level would be quite high, it's really hard to play. Maybe I won't use that...

I'm definitely up for entering. Nat: what's your composition for? Depending on how complex it is, some kind soul might be able to have a bash at transcribing it for you if you don't want to do it yourself. You might end up with something that would be OK as a reminder to you of how it is written. Thanks for the linky, sneekymum I need to get hold on an LCM piano book...

Ack I didn't realise there had been more posts, please excuse me being stupid ;D If you have the file, Nat, then probably it's openable if you can find someone with the technosavvy and a copy of Sibelius (I'm disqualified on both counts )

I have Sibelius, doesn't open though because of the type of file I saved it as for the recording.
It's for solo piano, you know the one.

(It does seem to stir strong feelings of indignation in some people I've mentioned it to, actually - in that it seems a bit pretentious to be considering myself capable of doing this when I haven't taken any music exams of any sort ever.... If people say things like that, then they aren't people worth talking to. Good luck with the compositions, and with the exam if you decide to go for it.

Amen to that - I don't see how it makes any difference whether you've done music exams before or not.

I saved it as a particular sort of file for the recording, and it needs to be some other sort to open it on Sib. I only lost it because my laptop broke and I lost everything on it, I only got the compositions back because yap had them. I've lost scores for a lot of my comps.

Finished the first piece today (ner, ner, n, ner ner).
Ordered the original sheet music for my chosen victim to deface for piece two. It might come tomorrow - they've posted it already.
LCM Piano Handbook I ordered from the music shop where I have lessons (had to really, didn't I?) - so that might be a week away.
Loving this.
