Forgive what is probably a stupid question, but what do the "karma" bits on the left hand side all mean - and exalt, etc.? I'm not very forum-literate - managed to work out the "warn" thing from The Other Place by myself, but didn't want to try clicking on anything here for fear of doing the wrong thing.
edit:ooh, karma went up by one - does that refer to threads started?

You can exalt or smite someone every hour. Each time you exalt someone, their karma increases by one; the reverse happens when you smite. You can't see who's exalted or smited(smitten?) you; others (with the possible exception of the mods/admin) can't tell if you've done it to them. Harmless fun really.

The Exalt and Smite options increase and decrease Karma. If someone makes a post that one likes, one can click 'Exalt'; if someone makes a post that one dislikes, one can click 'Smite'.
Given yours has gone up by one, I think someone has exalted you. From what I can tell, one can exalt or smite one person per hour. Still getting used to it myself, but I think that's right.

Brilliant. I want lots of my 'friends' from Another Place to come here, so I can smite them

;D Reminds me of something I saw on a colleague's whiteboard the other day. He was working on timetabling, and step 1 was: 'Start with most violated student'
