It's SCARY I was better at teaching....or maybe I've been doing that for eight years and am comfortable with it. I've been doing this for nine hours and it's very uncomfortable. Apparently everyone feels this way though, and it gets better. Our consultant seems to think we'll be world-beating house officers by September Will update after first on-call on Monday

you're lucky - I got the first night on, in a 1 in 3 rota, 84 hours a week on average... sounds like your consultant is OK, which is vital. And better to be scared than gung-ho!

Consultant *is* nice and supportive. And he's told me if radiology give me any trouble, he'll sort them out! We don't do nights in medicine (phew) so I don't have any until April. Lose out on a bit of cash and a lot of experience, but gain a lot of sleep. Swings and roundabouts I suppose. Today was better. I know the patients a bit now

we'd draw straws to see who had to go down and lick radiology's....er....wherewithals - your consultant is more than supportive, they're a gem.

Hope it's still going OK, DrSuzy! I think you'd be a bit crazy if you weren't a little scared - in my experience new jobs can be scary in general, and I can't imagine how scary being a brand new Dr must be! You'll probably look back in a year's time and wonder why it seemed to daunting

Two full weeks in & it's ok really. I like that teaching sessions, feedback sessions, case-based discussions and the like are all "over a cup of tea". ;D We put an offer in on a house today! Complete with piano room/office

Officially, not yet. Soliciters are writing to one another (or at least they write to us, ask us for money and say they're writing to each other...). Vendors shook on it last week but are currently on holidays, so no movements at the moment. Got paid on Friday I made more per hour teaching!

Interesting that, isn't it....so much for coining it in when you become a doc. One good thing about buying houses in Scotland - once you've given verbal agreement to buy/sell, it's supposed to be legally binding. Didn't stop us fretting when the vendors of the flat we now have went all silent on us for about a fortnight after we agreed to buy it!
