Can't believe this word is censored! ;D f*gOTT!
What is the world coming to?
Its perfectly good German, and all Grade 5 theorists need to know it, so why the censorship?
Next thing we won't be allowed to play the works of Samuel Scheidt or Thomas Crappius!!

Lol, I'll get YAP to sort it out. At least this place doesn't censor spoons, like the other place used to .

gone but not f*gotten.... good heavens, it's true. The bassoon has been sidelined/ deprived of some of its identity. I love the sound of a bassoon, though have fond memories of the one in the school orchestra packing up all the time.... Poor double-reed player. I've never had a go at playing a bassoon - do you need as much breath-pressure as for an oboe?

I am not too fond of bassoons, but they're ok when played well..which is rarely... .

do you need as much breath-pressure as for an oboe? You need a lot of diaphragm control - you actually have to push the air quite a distance!! But its not the high reed pressure that the oboes seem to have. Its a totally wacky instument - great fun - and I feel Sooooooooooo proud when I get it right - wonderful sound! (But it is hard to get it right...and I'm working on improving my success rate on the A which nearly always sounds sick!)

I tried a bassoon once in a wind quartet rehearsal, I found it quite easy to get a sound out of in comparison with the oboe.

wouldn't mind giving a bassoon a go, then. My oboe and I had a hate-hate relationship; in fact, when it broke, I was broke too, and had to buy a recorder to fulfil the need to go purple somehow. Strangely enough it was playing the recorder which taught me how to control my diaphragm, not the oboe. They say oboists get hardening of their brain arteries before their time, because of all that pressure - but pushing a lot of air under less pressure sounds more fun (and safer).
