Now I'm not a pianist (just play well enough to teach singing, but wouldn't accompany for important event), but I wondered if any of you find yourself holding you breath whilst playing a particularly difficult passage? My accompanist is usually out of breath for that reason when playing Spring Waters for me (one of Rachmaninov's songs). If you do, does it add to the interpretation?

I do, I've not played many really hard accompaniments, but when there is a hard passage for me I do think uhoh and if it goes right I breathe a huge sigh of relief .

Yes, I have that very often. Sometimes I mark places where to breathe, so I don't run out of breath at the end of the piece. That works well for me, if I don't forget to pay attention to them

For me it's no. I've just had a really good think about it and realise that I never think about breathing whilst playing the piano or singing, it just comes natural to me, I guess i'm lucky or i'm not trying hard enough
