Is anyone else either doing this or teaching it? I have two pupils about to launch into Grade 7; we can't do AB because of the theory requirement, and we can't find three pieces we're totally happy with on TG. There's quite a lot on the LCM repertoire list that I'm not familiar with, so if anyone else is more au fait with it all, do you have any recommendations?!

Grade 7 piano repertoire list, 1st 3 in each list are in the handbook the others are additional ones.
List A
JS Bach Echo in B minor from French Overture BWV 831 Dussek Rondo from Sonatina in Eb Op 20 No 6 Haydn Presto from Sonata in D Hob XVI/14 CPE Bach Solfeggietto (OMG I thought this was grade 5 ) J S Bach Prelude in D BWV 936 JS Bach 3rd mvt Corrente from Partita no 5 in G Beethoven Bagatelle in Eb OP 33 No 1 Handel 3rd mvt (Allegro) Keyboard suite in G minor Haydn 2nd mvt (allegro di molto) from Sonata in Bb Hob XVI/41
List B
Ilynsky Berceuse Chopin Prelude in Ab Ferguson Bagatelle No 2 in F# minor Chopin Mazurka in C Op 67 No 3 Grieg Lyric Piece Op 43 No 1 Gounod Matinee de Mai Grovlez Petites Litanies de Jesus Mendelssohn Venetian Gondola Song in G minor Tchaikovsky The Witch from Album for the Young
List C
Warlock Folksong Prelude No 2 Norton Prelude II from Country Preludes Linn Le Chat et le Moucheron from Les Petites Impressions Bartok Merry Andrew from Mikrokosmos Book V Copland No 3 from 4 piano blues Poulenc Staccato from Villageoises Prokofiev No 10 from Visions Fugitives Op 22 Shostakovich Prelude No 17 from 24 preludes Op 34 Wedgwood Cunning Mr Fox from After Hours Bk 3
To be perfectly honest I don't know that many off the list, in fact hardly any of them! I would pick Solfeggietto from list A because that's one of my favourites. My LCM students always do AB after grade 5, I make them do the theory!!!

Yes, one of these guys actually played that for Grade 5! I take it it's the same one - in C Minor? hank you for thaking the time to type this out, by the way! Being a lazy cow at heart I was just kind of hoping that somebody would have it in the house or know what was on the list from having done it!

I would say it's the same Solfeggietto because it doesn't specify a key. I like typing

I thought you were doing AB?
(I was no use to you, by the way, with that piece you asked about, as I haven't looked at the AB pieces at all.)

P.S. In case you're at the "thinking about it" stage, I have a TG Grade 6 playing the Ilinsky Berceuse (LCM 7, Group B) at the minute, and it's lovely. Her biggest difficuly was the key signature - 6 flats. I was comsidering sending her home with a recording of my voice saying "C Flat, C FLAT, C FLAT over and over again, as I was becoming a record player!

I'm playing loads of pieces at the moment at around grade 6/7 level, and I like one of the pieces on the AB list so I'm learning it because I need to play something I like to get me back playing piano and at this level. My teacher has ordered the LCM book so I'll see what the ones in the book are like and see if I have any other pieces.

LCM used to do CDs of all the pieces, which made life very easy! I refuse to buy lots of books any more just to see what things are like, and I've been close to kicking the computer on several occasions when trying to download stuff.

Do they not do them anymore? If I am going to do it I need to decide on a board and pieces soon ish really. I do like a piece on List A and C of AB but the scales are putting me off, although it would be nice to have a complete set of certificates from AB for piano if I pass . Then again I want to do LCM to get a feel for another exam board.

A different certificate would jar the eye on your wall... Instead of scales, don't forget that you can do studies for LCM. The Grade 7 ones are by Nielson and Beethoven. But for somebody who's already done loads of scales, I'd say the scales might be an easier option.

All of my pupils hate them too . I don't find them as bad on sax, I hate them a bit on clarinet, I hate them even more on piano.

If the Norton one is called homecoming - it is beautiful - it was on the AB GR7 list a while ago. I love it.
