I've played a soprano a few times. I'll let you know what the tenor is like. I've got sax ensemble and swing band music to practice, it's sooo hard..NOT lol! Might get my clarinet disney tunes out and play that .

Ha yea!
I played the tenor sax for a bit earlier, it's fairly simple. I'm still playing it too nicely like an alto, I'll get a stronger reed and see if that gives it some umph.

what size reed do you play in? I'm playing on 3's and just normal vandorens

On my alto I use some sort of Vandorens lol and strength 3.
I have just got a naff Rico Royal 1.5 on the tenor, because I only got it today and had no reeds so got one they had in school. I'm going to get a couple of better ones though.

have you tried the other types of vandorens? I always look at them and think 'ooh I should try those' and then be boring and just buy the normal ones!

No, I keep meaning to, but I never get round to. I generally buy reeds online, in a box and I don't want to buy a whole box of reeds I've never tested on sax. So I'd rather go to a music shop and just get a few, but I've not had the chance and won't for a good few weeks.

Would there be a market for a selection box of reeds for trial purposes? Instead of selling however many of one type, sell a pack with two or three of each type available to give you a chance of getting a good one of each type.

Yeah, I'd say so, I'd buy something like that.

Yeah I would as well. I don't wanna spend £16 or so on a box of a different type and find out that they really don't suit my playing, and the music shops around here only seem to sell the normal ones singly.

I just did a google search, and there appears to be Vandoren Original, Vandoren Hand Select, Vandoren Java, Vandoren V-16 and Vandoren ZZ!!! Let me know if anyone knows anything about each one!

Vandoren V16 are supposed to be good, they are the ones I want to try.
