Potspansamy have you tried any of the alternative Vandoren reeds?

I have tried the V16 on tenor (they where the only ones they had) and they seem to be nice enough to play on, but will be trying the normal vandorens before I can honestly comment because I don't know what they are like on tenor. I have tried the Vandoren ZZ on Alto which are quite good. I am fortunate enough to be able to buy them singularly in a local music shop so can try different reeds. Which reminds me I must go an pick up a few more reeds ... seem to be going though alot at the moment .

Are ZZ's more for jazz playing?

Yup they are more for Jazz , I got myself one for learning Baker Street on thought it might help (and it does seem to make a difference) though as I can never be bothered to change reeds after practising that one piece I have played more classical things on it to

Yeah, I do mostly classical stuff. The only jazz is what I play in band and that's just for fun so I never bother changing reeds.

It seems to work quite well for classical too as does the V16 (think the select ones are meant for classical more than the V16), but it is better that you probably test them yourself to decide which you prefer.

Yeah, too late now, won't be able to for weeks. Keep reminding me though! This is something I have put off for a year!

I was informed today that there isn't really a vandoren ZZ reed that it is just the Jazz reed under a different name i.e. the 'french version' so I have actually been playing on the Jazz and not the ZZ as I previously thought But would have to say that it would still be worth a try if any of you get a chance.
