I don't own any, and I thought it would be nice to have some recordings of music. Anyone have any recommendations for flautist and/or CD? Actually, I have a James Galway one, but I'm looking for something more erm classical? I like the Mozart concerti, but I don't know of much else that I like that might be recorded. Suggestions always handy .

I have an HMV CD with all Mozart's flute concerti. Not too impressed with the quality, but it's flute and it's Mozart. It's got Andreas Blau(Berlin Phil) and William Bennet, I think. I've got Galway's Songs for Annie too.

I like www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000001SFG/202-1303738-8399821?v=glance&n=229816 in the "not cheap" range, too. In my pitiful knowledge, there's more stuff for Romantic & 20th C for flute really, and baroque stuff. I haven't come across that much that's really good in the classical era, though that may just be my ignorance... for more modern music to listen out for I'd definitely recommend the Mouquet "Flute de Pan", the Franck sonatas & the Widor suite, oh and the Taktakishvili sonata I like too.

Thanks, I'd like really good stuff, but won't be able to afford many, so maybe bargain stuff would be good, I guess I could look on ebay. The JG one is Wings of Song or something? I'm not a massive fan of JG though.

Is Wings of Song the one you already have? I can't make the linkies work today - don't know if it's amazon playing up? - but the cheap one with the Prokofiev/Hindemith/Martinu is one I would highly recommend, I thought it was a bargain. There are versions of all 3 sonatas that I prefer, but all 3 on one CD and pretty good versions for I think about 7 quid is a good deal Much as I love Pahud's Syrinx and Prokofiev, if you're trying to work to a budget it's probably not the best option because the Chansons Madecasses and Bilitis (probably misspelled...) on the CD with it are a bit weird and an aquired taste! At the risk of being a bad influence... ... some of the albums are cheaper on itunes (esp if you're talking about big artists & big names like EMI) plus although they keep quite a few things, like for example the 1st mvt of the Prok, say, as "album only" tracks, you can actually be a bit more choosy and just pick a few tracks to download off a disc, which is quite handy - although be warned itunes is addictive and can be seriously bad for your bank balance It also evens out the price differences, although there's relatively not a lot available on itunes, all the tracks are priced the same (so far anyhow). I'm waffling, I'm tired, but hope some of that helps... I wish it was possible to search just in "bargain items" on Amazon, maybe it is but I haven't worked out how Ebay may well be worth a browse.

I'll have a look for you tomorrow. The French Flute music one for the amazon link there has some brill stuff on it. I played the Jolivet Chant de Linos for my final recital at RNCM. It's an amazing piece
