Just a couple of questions for any flautists in the the fora Has anyone ever heard of GEMEINHARDT flutes? if so what have you think of them? Is it possible to change registers using your embachoure? How do you stop the joints? from sticking so it is easier to (dis)assemble? Thanks Amy x

Has anyone ever heard of GEMEINHARDT flutes? if so what have you think of them? I have never played one, however they generally are not considered great. However I know people who use and love their Gemmys, I don't think they're as bad as some real cheap and nasties that bend with your finger pressure and stuff! Yes, it's kind of a combination of embouchure change and support. It gets easier and more second-nature with practice Best bet is to make sure they are clean, get a polishing cloth or similar and give them a good rub down. Some flutes just aren't that well machined though, so they may not assemble and come apart smoothly. I always found that a real good polish helped though! I don't mean a cloth with something on, just the cloth with the flute, or whatever clean cloth you have to hand. You'd be surprised at how much difference a bit of dirt can make. Thanks for the recommendation, Nat is Kflute on hols at the mo? Am sure she can contribute when she's next around too!! (& somewhat more expert than me....)

It's so annoying, we've got a few instruments like that in school and I find myself not playing, and just stand there holding the octave thing in place for someone else .
