My teacher gave me a different exercise today which went up to Eb above the treble stave. I get to the D and he shouts keep the tongue lying low at the front!!! He's right, as soon as I did that the notes came out, the tongue is my enemy when it comes to singing too ;D Heidi's tongue hurtles north at the slightest provocation - makes her sound as though she is being throttled. ;D If only

Less than a week to go now and everything's been going great.
Wake up this morning with a blocked up nose and slightly sore throat. This is very unusual, the last time I had a sore throat was when I was 21 and that was a long time ago! Usually I just get ear ache and cold symptoms. I'm going to take my vitamins and lots of oranges and hope. I'm thinking it's probably related to my state of mind in the last couple of weeks and because i'm run down mentally i've picked up a virus.
If i'm still suffering on Tuesday am I allowed to take a drink into the exam? Am thinking of getting vocalzones because it's a one-off and I need to sing through the exam.

try echinaccia too possum. Its one I sware by. I once killed a cold by eating vast quantities of raw garlic. I wasn't very popular at the time, but I recovered PDQ.

I have never taken a singer or wind player into an exam without making sure they have a drink in case their throat dries up. Taking one is a sensible precaution even when completely healthy.

Thanks jod and Steve I bought some echinaccia capsules today called Phytocold so they sound good on the bottle! It's one of those colds that you know you're getting but it doesn't come out properly. I don't have any symptoms apart from a slight tickle in my throat and the occasional blocked up head and nose. When I sing though the notes suddenly get blocked up in places which means I have to clear my throat. Hopefully these capsules will sort me out before Tuesday. It's really annoying because my chords are really behaving themselves now, the notes are really clear in head voice from A above middle C upwards and I know I can do it! Still it wouldn't be worth it if there wasn't any pain getting there. By the way, just bought a book on theology, I think it might help with my state of mind over the past few weeks, and possibly the singing in a very roundabout kind of way ;D

Well I did it!!!
Pur dicesti went really well, Widmung went really well, Come sing and dance went really well apart from the top Ab (due to cold) and Can't help lovin' dat man (yes I stuck with it), went well enough for a song that's not my cup of tea. The sight-singing was easy which surprised me and the aural tests went really well apart from the 2 chords before the perfect cadence which I knew I wouldn't know anyway. I'm in shock at the moment, will probably get the results and find i've failed and it was all a dream ;D

Looking at them like that in percentage terms shows how consistent you were through the whole exam. Nothing brough you down and I knew you could sing Widmung extremely well.
Congrats possum you deserve it.

Thanks ever so much I finally feel I can be called a singer rather than a pianist who tries to sing abit I am quite amazed I got 16/18 for the aural though, I definitely got 2 of the chords wrong or acted as though I did anyway! Am looking forward to getting the results sheet so I can see what he wrote.
