Oh my.... It was the first Baroque ensemble rehearsal a few days ago since July, over which time the harpsichord hadn't been tuned. I arrived 30 minutes early to warm up, to find it had gone somewhat sharp - somewhere in the region of a whole semitone sharp . It made for an 'interesting' rehearsal - I found myself sight-reading harpsichord parts and transposing them down a semitone to make the harpsichord play at approximately the same pitch as the rest of the instruments. It well and truly messed with my head though: my ears were telling me I was playing one thing (the curse of absolute pitch ), my hands were telling me another, and what I was reading wasn't right either. After an hour or so of rehearsal, our piano at home sounded out of tune - it's digital.... It's being tuned on Wednesday, thankfully.

Oooowwww! Unlucky you - but all the more reason to come over here some time....nag, nag. The changeable weather has played havoc with our instrument this summer - it's been variously sharp and flat and has had to be retuned pretty much every time we've played. My co-recorderist ( ) and I kept having to plead with the harpsichordist to crank his instrument down for "Xerxes", too..

Harpsichord any better now, YAP? Or will you not find out 'til Friday? My husband tuned ours tonight - a really juicy mean-tone. We played Cima and Uccellini, and, bar the liberal sprinkling of mistakes, it sounded fantastic. Then we played some Bach, which modulated all over the shop, and it was horrendous! ;D

It was great fun. The concert hall where he works is taking part in Edinburgh's Doors Open day tomorrow, and we were going to be playing there, but he can't now...so I can't, cos no harpsichordist...*sniff*
