There might be that many, but most people don't venture beyond their standard Bb instrument. Those that do might get to an A, possibly a Bb bass or an Eb. Basset horns turn up occasionally (usually in the Mozart Requiem), there's the occasional alto clarinet in wind band or clarinet choir music, and some orchestral scores require a contrabass.
Well done Nat - top piece, top instrument!

3 weeks ish until the concert, and it's going well erm, it's a laugh . Some parts of the piece are so fast and crossing a few octaves, so I just wiggle my fingers or miss them out because they're impossible to play on a smelly, old, stuck together with cellotape bass clarinet . Had sectionals tonight, they're always a laugh .

This gets even funnier...concert is 2nd December... The orchestra are playing some Debussy Nocturnes which apparantly have voices in, the 2nd clarinet in the orch is a first study singer, a good one at that, so she needs to sing in one of the movements. We got the first year clarinettist to play instead, but she has yet to appear at any rehearsal, so guess who gets lumbered with completely new music to learn by next week...yes... ME . Oh shine a light ,

Lol! We have a choir concert that day (completely random comment!) I'm sure you will be fine - enjoy it! You must be good if they have asked you to play it so stop putting yourself down! hoxie xxx

I doubt that! Whoever auditioned you probably knew fine well you'd only just looked at the music, and judged your playing accordingly. If you could manage at all on the practice you did, he probably reckoned he'd be on a winner if he could get you to do some more!

Now I've been asked to play clarinet in some postgrads conducting assesment. First week back after Christmas...oh yes that's totally fine, not having a rehearsal before then is no problem. I'll sight read in the exam . I think the pieces are Prokofiev's Classical Symphony and Mendelssohn's Midsummer Nights Dream.

Dear me, I thought I'd get away from playing in the symphony orchestra for the next concert but now I'm playing second clarinet in the Hummel Trumpet Concerto. When will I learn .
