What would you do differently if you could turn back time. Whether is is to do with music or life in general

I'd have started sax earlier so I was better now, I wouldn't have stopped playing so many instruments, erm that's it. No point dwelling on things too much .

I wouldn't risk changing anything major; the result might be that I failed to meet some of the individuals in my life that are so important to me. Just one thing. About 3 years ago, I was interviewed for a part-time 'A' level music teaching post at John Leggott 6th form college in Stingythorpe. I loved the college and was fresh from my most recent 6th form contract; I really wanted the job. It arose at interview that a central feature of the post was the ability to conduct the college choir and orchestra - the blurb had not made this clear and these were things I had never done. I could not see why they were interviewing me. I was honest and reiterated that my strenghs did not match up to what they were looking for. I did not get the job. Given a rerun. I would lie. ;D Then again, perhaps I would have been killed in a motorway smash on my way to the college. Not that is a rerun I would definitely want. ;D

If I was really to think about this I'd be here all night, so I'll just stick to music!
If I could go back to when I was 10, I would wear my glasses. I walked around half blind until I got contact lenses for my 16th birthday, but in the meantime I blundered through school without being able to see the blackboard from the front of the classroom -and I gave up the violin because I couldn't see the music stand (never mind the music on it...)
When I got my contact lenses I discovered the opposite sex and gave up the piano - another regret; I only rediscovered it when my first son wanted to learn, which is when I did my first exam. All those years ago I wasn't interested in exams because in my arrogance I thought I had nothing to prove - I never cared about ANY exams - and then suddenly here was something that mattered enormously to me, and I wondered, "Can I?" The first thing I had ever really cared about looked like being the first thing I might ever fail, because I cared too much, and found it very difficult to control my nerves; suddenly I had an awful lot to prove - to myself. Which is ridiculous, because I've never had a problem with nerves in any other aspect of my life. Quite the opposite. So that is a big regret - my playing has improved steadily since I got back on the ball (after 15 years) but I often wonder how I'd be doing if I'd stuck with it when I was younger, and if I'd have the same problems with nerves.
I think this is why I'm so keen to stop my kids from drifting away from their music - they all have the potential to be very good. I wish I had a crystal ball; we really never know whether we're doing the right thing or not, do we, till we have the benefit of hindsight - and regret?!

gave me glandular fever making me very ill for 6 months and still affects me now!! Git!!! I try not to have any regrets about life and have succeeded in all but one thing - I became ill with glandular fever nearly 2 years ago and still have health problems, in particular problems with muscles in my leg which makes it difficult to walk properly when I get stressed or tired (which happens quite a lot!!). I do wonder how life might be a bit different if I had learnt to manage stress properly when I did my GCSE mocks (the time when I became ill) so that is probably what I would try to change. Whether it would have made any difference or not, goodness knows...

I'd not change anything - wish I could change the less likeable bits of my personality, maybe, but given what I have, even the bad experiences have helped to shape who I am and where I'm at; some things which happen can't be said to have a good side, ever, but sometimes they need to happen before something else positive can.

That's very true! I try to tell the children that you can't always control what happens in your life, but you can control you attitude to it - but it's not really always true. Sometimes you need to hit the bottom of the pool before you can start to push yourself back towards the surface of the water.
