Off in a little while to perform in a charity concert at our local church and i'm terrified!!! Playing piano for cello:- Elegie Faure Swan Song of the birds Casal For 2 singers:- I dreamed a dream I know him so well What I did for love and I joined a choir 2 weeks ago and am singing in that as well but at least I can mime and it won't notice, can't do that for the piano unfortunately, it's times like these when I wish I was in an orchestra or didn't tell anyone I played piano ;D Going to have another bottle of gin just before I go so i'm counting on it to work for me.

Oh how I envy you, possom! I LOVE the Faure Elegie, and would LOVE to play it in a concert....but my current cellist is engrossed in Shosta so I'll have to do Faure some other time!
All the best for the concert! Let us know how you got on!

I love the Fauré too. I am waiting for the day when my daughter will be good enough to play it on the cello. Hope all goes (went?) well.

Just got back and it went really well even though the church was freezing and the quick notes passed in a blur because my fingers were so cold ;D How nieve am I? I didn't even know the Elegie until I was asked to do this concert, I have such gaps in my musical knowledge it's just terrible but at least I know about Pablo Casals now (who I previously hadn't even heard of!!!) and have discovered some lovely music. This is the first concert i've played in for about 12 years (apart from the odd amateur dramatics orchestra part) and I really enjoyed it so am hoping to do more now that i've found a really good and friendly cellist to play with. Thanks for your best wishes, it's so nice to come home and know people care and support you from afar

Well done! At one church concert that I played at, there were three of us fighting over a pair of gloves; each was allowed to have one hand warm for 3 minutes, then we passed the glove to the right. Not good for the demi-semis!

If you are interested in more Fauré music for cello (and piano) there is a CD by Stephen Isserlris which includes the Elegie. It is one of my favourite CDs.

Thanks Kerioboe i'll check it out, I love the sound of a well played cello There's a really good chance we'll be getting together again, the cellist is my son's music teacher at school.
