AP and I are thinking of doing AMusTCL when we do g8 theory - whilst we're keeping up fluency in theory for g8, it'll be somewhat easier to do AMusTCL at the same time. In terms of theory knowledge needed, Trinity regard AMusTCL as being somewhere around g6, but there are analysis questions too which are completely unlike anything found on theory exams.

Going back briefly to grade 6 theory, can you guys confirm something for me please? MTIP talks about identifying chords as major\minor\dim etc in question 1, as well as selecting the chord. I seem to remember some mention of this on the AB forums a few months ago. Neither the online syllabus, the Big 6 or past papers mention this. Is it still part of the requirement? Steve

Just in question 1 when writing in the chords one can use 'any recognised method' so one doesn't necessarily have to say that they're diminished etc. Although one could potentially be marked down I guess if one used extended roman notation wrongly. I don't know if they would or not if they could tell clearly which chord one meant as this is the main purpose of the question. One certainly isn't required to state by each chord whether it is major, minor or diminished though if not using a notation which implicitly defines this .

Hmmmm. Not the first time I have done this. Sorry AP. I shall try again. Am I the only one who has seemed to have abandoned grade 6 theory work despite the exam being in a few weeks? .

Am I the only one who has seemed to have abandoned grade 6 theory work despite the exam being in a few weeks? . I haven't had a look at it in a couple of weeks, but now you've reminded me might do another past paper.

I can't believe I was stupid enough to enter myself and then just do a few past papers and nothing else! Argh! I sense a fail.... .

That's almost 3 weeks away. Civilisations have risen, fallen and risen again in that length of time. Nothing to worry about.
