Ehup frankie82. A billion thanks for you kind comments in The Other Place. I posted this reply: Thanks for your kind comments everyone.
I am not actually banned from these forums. I no longer read them or try to contribute to them because the moderators have my posts under permanent pre-moderation. They have not taken the trouble to explain why.
As a result, I have taken my ball off to play on other forums - Alternative Fora and PianoStreet provide all the 'forum fix' I need. ;D
During my time as a contributor, I made several friends; two of them have drawn this thread to my attention, otherwise I would not have seen it.
All the best everyone
Steve
Given that I am subject to permanent pre-modding by the censors, there is no guarantee this will appear, so I have asked an old friend to quote it if not. I have been back to the AB forum a couple of times, feeling nostalgic. It seems to me that most of the threads are wingeing about something. Had the boards been so tedious back when I joined, I doubt I would have bothered. I miss the rows I used to provoke with the 'aural is everything' brigade, though. ;D Hey-ho. Life is never perfect ;D In real life, I am still dispensing hugs and cuddles through lessons as though they were going to be banned tomorrow, usually with a highly approving and chuffed parent looking on. Where there is not a highly approving and chuffed parent looking on, you wouldn't believe some of the things kids confide in me because of the trust they have in me. Makes me feel very humble. Now, that's not something I say often ;D ;D ;D In between dispensing hugs and cuddles and listening to confidences from students, I am preparing for a recital with a 19 year old cellist from Leeds Uni. Boy, but she can play. Boy, but she can play fast. Faster than me, I can tell you. I might have to plead old age and beg for mercy. She is a lovely girl and will grant said mercy immediately. Until the performance, that is. At that point, everything we ever rehearsed will be driven out by nerves and she will take off like a bat out of place where satan lives on a motorcycle. ;D Hey ho. Some things never change; I hope they never will. The capacity of the young to excite and frighten us oldies is one of the wonders of life. Do tell others about the AF, frankie82 (Frankie?). It needs more members if it is to flourish. Steve

I miss the rows I used to provoke with the 'aural is everything' brigade, though. ;D Hey-ho. Life is never perfect ;D You mean aural isn't everything I think the thread on the other board is hysterical, especially the comments from the 'wonderful, talented' newbie whose never heard of you!

I've been flitting across lots of fora recently, and the "other place" is plain boring! I'm optimistic about this one....if we can get more members. One I've found quite useful recently is pianoworld.com (though tends to be American biased). I've also been reading (but haven't yet plucked up the courage to post) the Radio 3 message board - huge arguments about the "validity" of Shostakovich - amazing how passionate some people are!!
Special note to Steve - please do keep posting anecdotes about your various pupils and lessons - its always so encouraging!! And I'm still tempted to ask you for a bit of cyber-space virtual teaching (if I can ever manage to record myself and post on the recordings site!)

Not sure I'll ever get up the courage to record myself, but if I do, I'd appreciate the virtual teaching too! Did post Steve's message over there, but has been swiftly removed - and my posts are now being inspected before being allowed to be seen ;D

Not surprised!! What I think is funny, is that anytime one of us lot posts anything to back up Steve, or me, or mentions it, it gets deleted and the members are put on moderation.
Yet, that idiot musicmaestro was obviously an already registered member from the other place or had family/friends on there so knew exactly who Steve was, but was allowed to post and re register and probably had no warning whatsoever!!
I'm getting the feeling of one rule for us and a different set of rules for everyone else..yet AGAIN, oh dear me it does make me laugh. ;D

...and all we're left with is a mixture of angst-ridden fretting and very loud and tuneless trumpet-blowing...the sad thing is, TOP has become dull and repetitive, and actually reflects less well on the very system which is trying to "maintain standards". I used to enjoy being over there, but I've become more and more disillusioned. There are still a few sane characters and good threads, but they don't half take hunting for.
