Now then, how much teaching do you get to do, and how much do you end up being taught, by such a one?

Oh, lucky you! I'm having to learn teenagers with my older sprog, and that is not ideal, though often the way parents have to. To be able to have that bit of detachment must help enormously. I read somewhere once: "it is the child's duty to destroy its parents. It is the parents' duty to survive".....

It probably isn't any consolation, but dealing with other parents' teenagers is infinitely easier than dealing with your own. You are stuck with your own. You are untrained and inexperienced. I send teens home after their lesson to the parents who are 'learning on the job'. Good thing all the parents I know love their teens, or they would murder them. ;D Teens' parents need their own forum. Good luck. I made a complete dog's breakfast of brining up my own. Happily, he survived, somehow ;D Steve

Steve, I recently admitied that my younger son aged 5 is in the "gifted" spectrum. Wben I mentioned it I was not trying to brag, as keeping him amused sometimes can be a real pain, yet I felt like I was some over-pushy parent bragging about their children's exceptional abilities.
Far from it its more tha case of a brow beaten parent trying to remember that my child is only five despite some of the things he's able to do.
I love teaching my pupils, and sharing their successes, but not again in a boastful way. The trouble with TOP is you do that and you're accused of bragging.
I still contribute over there, but Nat and Steve are certainly ex TOP forumites whose contributions I miss terribly.

The same happens if you contribute with the authority of knowledge, understanding and experience in your chosen field. There is much mediocrity over there ;D Awwwww. Tell you what, as soon as I can I will give you 'exalt' (can't do it right now cos I am using them on Nat - trying to get her to the 100 mark ;D) Steve

What do people think of this thread, just out of interest? I'm inclined to leave it, free speech and all that, but as I'm inclined to run a democracy not a dictatorship, opinions are always welcome.

Leave it, YAP. Stick to the free-speech principle. Besides, the latest postings have been friendly. Steve

Hi all! Make room for me, too! (Though I admit, I'm still a poster at TOP, as well)
