jod - you were dead right to join RSPB. My youngest wants (for his 10th birthday) a fancy pair of binoculars so he can go bird-watching. His interest sparks from a good friend who took him to an RSPB bird place when he (my son) was on an INSET day and I had to go to work. Nobody in the family is particularly into bird-watching, but son LOVES it!! I think boys (in particular) need lots of encouragement to follow their interests. (but I'm secretly glad its bird-watching and not train-spotting!!) It was the boys who wanted to join after Alexander went on a field trip. They've got some lovely things on in our area during the summer. They're already going pond-dipping at minsmere, although I think they'll enjoy walking along the beach as much, or exploring in the woods. Then there's a minibeast safari at Sandy. Both boys are into minibeasts, so they'll be plenty to amuse them there. Is it really pushy to plan a fun-packed week based on them going to RSPB and National Trust Events? We're members why not get good value for money! They get Thursday to themsleves. I might organise getting a friend around so they can play!

Some one started another "what is your greatest mark" thread at TOP, I've been somewhat acidic, though no-one could acuse me of being rude. It would be interesting to see if they put me under moderation for that. I'm just fed up with them, and then "notmusicalmum" started defending the original poster. I think not directly I was accused of not being very nice. I don't care. If only these "innocents" knew what it was like to live in the real world! Here was me thinking the 'rude replies' were mine ;D and they got past the mods!

No, Suzymac as you may have seen today, I have atemper too! And for once put it into rather vitriolic, yet perfectly polite prose.

I think it's great that he wanted to join the RSPB - a very healthy thing to encourage. These days you get too many little s-h-i-t-s hanging around on street corners so it's refreshing to hear of children enjoying these kinds of interests and hobbies.......

Have I missed something with the RSPB thing? when we went to centerparcs a few years back my daughter asked to join the RSPB rather than pay to go on a guided bird walk - does that make me a pushy parent too
