Blimey, all I did was log off for a bit, and there's all these replies! Thanks for the exalt Steve, I've never had a karma before. When I get enough points, can I trade them in for a prize? There was talk....no-one answered a definite yes or no...

Some one started another "what is your greatest mark" thread at TOP, I've been somewhat acidic, though no-one could acuse me of being rude. It would be interesting to see if they put me under moderation for that. I'm just fed up with them, and then "notmusicalmum" started defending the original poster. I think not directly I was accused of not being very nice. I don't care. If only these "innocents" knew what it was like to live in the real world!

It's a hysterical thread, folks, so go along for a read at forums.abrsm.org/index.php?showtopic=16637. Nice reply, Jo. I don't think you will be modded for it - you haven't argued with one of The Favoured Few, yet. Give it time ;D Steve

So who in your esteemed opinion are The Favoured Few? Or is it in fact anyone who hasn't been severely modded.
Oh and it's interesting to read your comments jod since you seem to be one of the pushiest parents in TOP and therefore one may well consider your opinion to be suspect...

Hemiola, you know nothing about my children, nor do you know anything about the way I parent them.
So Alexander is academically gifted. So What! Its none of your business. Its my business and my husbands business. As parents We have the responsibility to support him and nurture his abilities and interests. Oh and he does have plenty of time to play on the climbing frame, and watch TV.
As far as Matthew is concerned. The decision to do Grade 1 singing was his choice not mine. We enjoy listening to his reading. Oh and we've joined the RSPB after he showed such interest in BBC Springwatch.
Children are different. I demonstrate a pro-active appraoch to my kids schooling, but that is because I love them.
I burnt out at 13. The last thing I want is the same for my kids.
IS it any surprise that they are bright given the environment in which they live. I have a 2.i in music, my husband has a First and a Doctorate in Physics. We live close to cambridge and they are surrounded by exceptionally bright people working in industry around them.
The last thing I want for my kids is unnecessary competition.
So hemiola, read my posts again, and you will realise that far from being pushy, I let my kids be their own people. And if MAtthew thinks "Francescos Italy" is his favourite TV Programme, or begged me to record "The really wild show Springwatch series" just remember he loves "Doctor Who" and computer games too.

This is the problem with pushy parents, their feeble attempts to justify themselves just shows how warped their self-image is. Shame on you.
Joining the RSPB because he saw springwatch on the TV. I ask you. You are the exact same type of parent who, because their child sings half a bar of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, immediately pushes them into stage school auditions, or indeed puts them into Grade 1 singing. Nice parenting there jod.
I trust you are ready for the repercussions when they are old enough to get some perspective on your "pro-active" (actually "pushy") style of parenting...

Have you all voted in the "Is Nat brill?" poll on TOP? I wonder how long it will be before it *disappears*. (My triangle poll lasted just under a day - and now I can't post without someone carefully checking the appropriateness of what I say!)

Hemiola, do you have children. Can you read what I have actually written rather than put your own spin. MY CHILDREN HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO BE CHILDREN There will be no repercussions because of all the love and cuddles given to them. And no, having taught in a daytime stageschool, I have no intention to push my eldest there. But encourage his singing yes. BTW he had a sever asthma attack on Saturday, so was my rather proactive attempt to administer first aid and summons the emergency services being pushy. I think not. It saved his life!

jod - you were dead right to join RSPB. My youngest wants (for his 10th birthday) a fancy pair of binoculars so he can go bird-watching. His interest sparks from a good friend who took him to an RSPB bird place when he (my son) was on an INSET day and I had to go to work. Nobody in the family is particularly into bird-watching, but son LOVES it!! I think boys (in particular) need lots of encouragement to follow their interests. (but I'm secretly glad its bird-watching and not train-spotting!!)
