I guess I am only sometimes in the mood for serious discussion of technique - I more often use the forums just for fun really or a sense of camaraderie reading about people in the same boat as me. I don't always want to actually engage my brain!

I do wish you were back there in some form or another. That is kind of you to say. Thanks. ;D My absence has nothing to do with being pre-moderated. That is a nuisance but nothing worse. My absence is all down to lack of interesting content. When I found TOP 18 months ago, it seemed to me to be a vibrant and interesting place to be. Maybe the novelty of the new new had something to do with it; whatever the cause, I was addicted. I enjoyed interesting discussions, occasional blazing rows with the dogmatic and overbearing people, and enjoyed sharing the experience I have gained throughout my long career. This has all gone. There have been a ridiculous number of posts here, complaining of being warned, even pre-moderated and saying along the lines of, "All I did was *" '*' stands for: something completely trivial that attracted the fury of The Favoured Few; daring to post a counter-argument that attracted the fury of The Favoured Few; mentioning me. This gives me the impression that the censors have created a culture that does not allow for discussion, since that will inevitably lead to disagreement and this is not allowed. Out of curiosity, before writing this I re-visited TOP and did a trawl of the of the forums I used to write on. Out of all of them, I was only attracted to read the grade 8 problem posted by a student (so wet and pathetic that I did not finish reading the first post, let alone the replies), the one about me and YAP's Leeds in viva piano. That is a sad state for such a large forum to get into. I find more to contribute to here. The people are a much nicer breed, too. ;D Steve

I'm sorry to say that, once again, I find myself in agreement with Steve!! I have now de-registered the account that was working (though under stringent moderation so that everything I posted arrived late). I told abrown that I saw no point whatsoever in an account that gave me no freedom of speech, and I asked, yet again, for it (abrown) to explain why my account was under restrictions. Naturally, the account has been disabled....and still no apology/explanantion etc. etc.
So, I'm pleased to say that this place here is now my number one forum!!

I'm sorry to say that, once again, I find myself in agreement with Steve!! You are allowed to do that here. Novel experience for both of us. Being allowed to, I mean. ;D I am really writing this because I just noticed your signature. I did the cello\piano sonata with a young cellist a few years ago. Wonderful stuff. Enjoy.

Ehup CD. I am having trouble with msn - it and my firewall are not communicating properly. That is why I have not been on much. I need to sort this out.

Steve et al, when I discovered TOP it had a number of people on it who seriously wanted to talk about what it was to be a music teacher. Pass on tips, Talk about the needs of parenting musical children. Alas, you have to wade through a lot of drivel to get there.
I still contribute to Viva Voice, have a chat in the forums cafe, but no longer feel any of the discussions in "Parents" and Teachers" are relevant. Viva Piano has gone seriously downhill (about the time when a certain Steve Hopwood stopped contributing) and still montitor the General Forum.
But I must admit, if I want someone's musical opinion, or want to pick their brains as a teacher or parent, then although it might be slower to get an answer, I know I'll get a sensible one here.
