I got the Pieces and Exercises book yesterday. Any recommendations? Group A - Mendelssohn Song Without Words looks fun, but fast, and I'm not good at playing fast. Puck also looks fun, but 6 flats . Group B - Not sure, perhaps Rachmaninov.... Any help appreciated .

Puck was an AB Grade 7 piece a few years ago. Once you get past the key signature, it's great . Do you have a copy of it?

Aha, I didn't know you had the book . Having a look at the syllabus now ( www.trinitycollege.co.uk/resource/?id=782 if anyone's intrigued). The Bach Partita Allemande is fab, but I know that'll fall on deaf ears . Beethoven is pretty, too; as is the Haydn. Looks like a good syllabus there .

I have actually, believe it or not, thought about the Bach Partita . Erm did you miss out reading my first sentence?!

Drat, Naxos don't have a recording of it. Are you going to play one of your own compositions?

Yep:
'Instead of one item, candidates may offer their own composition'

Being pedantic, in my book it says: 'One piece may be replaced by the candidate's own composition of a similar length and standard to the other pieces chosen.' But no, I can't play my compositions, and not sure if they were of the right standard.

I quoted page 9 of the document I linked to a few posts ago.
Fair enough, 'twas just a thought. There's plenty of on-syllabus material which is good though. I think they've done a good job of g6 this time too.

I didn't get grade 6, because I can't take it, well I can but I've done it, need a grade 7 or 8. When I'll get it, I don't know.
