In primary school we had a pregnant dog of a teacher who wouldn't let us play football in summer (not even at breaks), because it was a 'winter' sport. This was especially hard to stomach because France '98 was on at the time. I still go for an occasional kickaround at times...

Yeah, I'd love to get back into it again, but just don't have time. So I watch it instead .

I grew up being dragged to rugby matches every weekend, because my dad played. I was bored stupid, and have remained bored stupid by any game involving people running around on a field chasing a ball as a result. I can appreciate the skill involved, and all that, but have never developed the team identity thing. Put it down to egocentric individualistic non-team-playing nonsensical sort of personality. I still love music, so hope I won't be a total outcast as a result.

Watching is good - that's why I love it when the World Cup is on. Games on all afternoon and evening.

Nope - you're an outcast now Anacrusis.
Nat - hopefully the T&T game will be a bit easier (although so far there's been a bunch of games where the favourite takes the lead early and then holds shakily on for the rest of the game). It would be nice if we could relax for the Sweden game.

It should be easier yes, but Hislop had a really good game for them against Sweden. I'd rather us be able to relax for Sweden so that he doesn't have to use Rooney against them, and save him for when it really really matters. However, if we muck up against T&T then he might have to play against Sweden.
Although I don't think Sweden are that good, they still have players like Larsson and Ljunberg that can easily turn a game, so it won't be that easy.

Yeah, it would be good if we could rest Rooney. I'm still rendered somewhat annoyed he brought Walcott - what was the bloody point?

Not quite sure, I'd have picked Defoe ahead of him.
I can see why he took Owen off the other day, because we did need to try to keep the ball in the midfield etc, but unfortunately that then meant that no-one was up there with Crouch which made it harder when we were attacking.

I can understand him wanting to change something, as the first 10 minutes after half-time we were pretty dire. But things failed to improve even slightly after his substitution, so it clearly didn't help. Whatever he said at half-time really nuisanceed things up.

I hope we do win, then quite a few players could be rested for Sweden game, and to try to avoid injuries.
